For 120 years, Rawtenstall Market has been the heart of the valley... a place to pick up essentials, meet up with friends, and support the local makers who give Rossendale its character.

When the market first opened back in 1906, it was built to serve the town’s working families with traditional stalls for fresh produce, meats, and everyday goods. Over the decades, it’s evolved with the times, growing into the space we know today - a mix of long-standing traditional traders, independent creators, and local food vendors.

While the layout has changed over the last century, the reason people keep coming back remains the same: the people behind the counters. You’ve got faces who have been part of the furniture for over 25 years like Carol on the meat and cheese counter, John the Fishmonger, and Sweetie Sue. Over at the Chicken Coop, you’ll find three generations of the same family working side by side. That kind of history is rare, and it’s what gives the market its soul.

Alongside the long-standing stalls, the market has also become a home for great independent food. You can grab a wood-fired pizza from Pizzabox (which launched right in the middle of COVID), head to GroundUp for some of the best burgers, grilled cheese, and fried chicken around, or stop by In the Bag Bagels for contemporary fillings and their famous in-house cured salt beef. And there's even more to discover.

It’s the perfect blend of heritage and new ideas that keeps the space alive and growing. Support our local markets.
